OnePlus Technology
OnePlus Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., known as OnePlus, is a Chinese consumer electronics brand headquartered in Shenzhen, China. Established on December 16, 2013, by Pete Lau and Carl Pei, OnePlus began as a subsidiary of BBK Electronics, which also owns Oppo and Vivo. The company aimed to create high-quality flagship smartphones at lower prices, launching its first device, the OnePlus One, in 2014, running Cyanogen OS.
Growth and Expansion
OnePlus gained popularity through an invite-only sales model and minimal marketing, relying heavily on word-of-mouth. In 2015, it introduced the OnePlus X, targeting budget-conscious users, and later expanded into wearables and TVs (exclusively in India). The OnePlus Nord series launched in 2020 marked a return to mid-range phones. In October 2020, Carl Pei left the company to start Nothing.
By 2021, OnePlus had merged its OxygenOS withOppo’s ColorOS, sharing a unified codebase but maintaining distinct branding. In 2024, OnePlus began assembling and officially selling its products in Bangladesh.
