Funded by the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize and a donation from Gro Harlem Brundtland, each award grants up to 15,000 Euros per year for up to two years (2025–2027).

Priority will be given to candidates from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) who are studying outside their home country. Research proposals should focus on climate change and related fields, including living soils, biodiversity, agroforestry, water management, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Academic Status:

Selection Process

The selection process follows these key steps:

  1. Initial Screening:
    • The IPCC Secretariat reviews applications for eligibility.
    • Applications are assigned to expert reviewers (including IPCC Coordinating Lead Authors, Lead Authors, Review Editors, and Bureau Members).
  2. Expert Review:
    • Reviewers assess applications and research proposals.
    • Recommendations are forwarded to the IPCC Scholarship Programme Science Board, which includes the IPCC Chair and three Vice-Chairs.
  3. Shortlisting:
    • The Science Board evaluates the recommendations and creates a shortlist of candidates.
    • The shortlist is submitted to the funding partners.
  4. Final Selection:
    • The funding partners make the final decision based on the shortlist.
